I'm trialling a monthly fashion spotlight where I'll share examples and information of a different J-fashion! Please let me know what you think in the comments.
Nanchatte Seifuku(なんちゃって制服) is inspired by the uniforms Japanese girls wear, with a bit more creativity. It's a really cute preppy style I'm currently in love with! It's similar to Kogal without the Gal 'sexiness,' bleached hair and short skirts. Nanchatte is more refined with longer skirts, blazers and ties/bows.

Outfit Basics
Nanchatte Seifuku involves staple items such as blouses, bows, skirts and cardigans/vests/blazers during the colder months. The tie or bow is important for the look to achieve a Japanese school uniform feel. The most popular pattern for skirts is tartan but plain, block colours can also be used. Shoes are generally Oxfords or Mary Janes with socks, these can be anywhere from ankle to OTKs or tights.
Stores
- Conomi - slightly expensive, they have a lot of cute items. Can be purchased from CD Japan as well, otherwise a SS is required.
- Bodyline - a cheaper option, sometimes hit and miss.
- Y!J - SS required. This is an auction site, so it is extremely hit and miss.
- Thrift shops/Op shops - These are a great idea if you're on a budget, things like blouses and cardigans would be easy to find here.
- Daruma(Taobao) - Taobao store, SS required. On the cheaper side but shipping + SS fee can make it more expensive sometimes.
